Creative minds shape the culture of knowledge at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU). At JGU, more than 35,000 staff and students from over 120 nations take on the challenges of the sciences and the arts, of research, learning, and teaching every single day. It is the joint efforts of all JGU members doing research, studying, working, and living together that make our university so successful. JGU supports its members in all their endeavors \u2013 in keeping with the university\u2019s namesake, Johannes Gutenberg, and its motto, \u201cThe Gutenberg Spirit: Moving Minds \u2013 Crossing Boundaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our Gutenberg Network brings alumnae and alumni, partners, and friends of JGU together and links them with those currently studying, teaching, researching, and working in Mainz. This creates a vibrant, cross-generational JGU community from which all members can benefit throughout their lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

JGU supports and accompanies research, teaching, and knowledge transfer across its ten faculties and two schools of arts. This is achieved through 13 central institutions and facilities, eight departments and divisions of the central administration, as well as the staff units of the Executive University Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation and university autonomy are realized through the central bodies of the university: the University Council, the Senate, and the Executive University Board. Through university-wide and decentralized elections, and via participation in committees, all JGU members are encouraged to contribute to shaping and developing the institution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
